Knights of HOSA is the Region X HOSA Chapter at the University of Central Florida. We are a newly established HOSA Chapter since June 2013. Our executive board members consist of President, Samantha Purcell-Musgrave, Parliamentarian, Shawn Curtis, Treasurer, Joshua Sheppard, Secretary, Haley Prokupek, and Historian, Blakely Keyser. We also have many chairman and leadership positions open for active members.
Since our founding in June 2013, we have gathered eight active members and registered these members through National HOSA. Six of these members were registered to compete for the Winter Leadership Competition. In October, we had our first fundraiser to raise money for WLC and SLC. Knights of HOSA also recognizes National HOSA’s National Service Project, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. We established contact with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and plan to participate in the Great Strides Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Walk in March.
Knights of HOSA also recognizes the importance of community service. We have participated in various community service events since our founding. In November, we participated in Volunteer UCF’s “Health from the Heart” event, in which we made heart-shaped pillows for open heart surgery patients at Florida Hospital. The pillows can be hugged by the patients while coughing, easing pain around the stitches. On November 8th, our president Samantha Purcell-Musgrave presented to New Smyrna High School about post-secondary HOSA. We also participated in the Shingle Creek Elementary School Teach-In program, in which members discussed health careers with students.
Our first semester as an active HOSA Chapter has been a great one and we are currently studying and training for the Winter Leadership Conference on February 1st.

March 2015
Knights of HOSA began another Spring Semester at UCF in January 2015. In February, KOH held a fundraising Bake Sale for SLC funding. We sold cookies from Publix and Wawa donuts on UCF campus and promoted HOSA. Knights of HOSA also began to promote a Princeton Review scholarship for members. The scholarship is valued at about $1500 and is for Princeton Review's Ultimate Prep Course. We will raffle the scholarship from the list of KOH members on April 14, 2015.
The week of March 16-20th 2015 was HOSA week at UCF. We held various events all week to promote HOSA and different aspects we considered important for UCF students. We held an event to meet the current officers of Knights of HOSA and to promote HOSA on campus. We held a Medically themed game of Taboo, as a fun way to educate students on certain illnesses. KOH also held an interactive medical emergeny simulation using HOSA prompts to help students understand these situations. Our last event was an informational session to help educate UCF students on how to stay mentally and physically well in college. Knights of HOSA members are currently preparing for the Florida HOSA State Leadership Conference on March 26-29th.
